Overview

The Appalachian School of Law is an ABA accredited, non-profit law school located in Grundy, Virginia. ASL blends a traditional legal education with an emphasis on experiential learning. Our students work closely with professors who have years of professional practice in their fields, and our small classes provide many opportunities for interaction. ASL's mission is to produce lawyers with a sense of professional responsibility who will become leaders in their communities.

The first three semesters of study include the philosophical and theoretical foundations of law that are necessary for success on the Bar Exam, after which students choose their own path via electives, externships, and particular interests. ASL places a high priority on service and teaches our students how to use the law for good in their communities.

ASL is located in the quiet Virginia mountains, providing the perfect environment to hear yourself think and to focus on your studies. Our goal is for our students to earn a J.D. and to become lawyers who will give back to their communities. ASL is one of only a few law schools in the nation to confer the Juris Master to students who are in good standing after completion of the first three semesters. The J.M. signifies mastery of the theoretical and philosophical foundations of the Juris Doctorate. ASL is a meaningful adventure that will stay with you for a lifetime. Apply now and possess the future with confidence.

Programs

What sets ASL apart is its deep commitment to community service and leadership. ASL takes an innovative approach to education, going beyond just talking about the law to actually experiencing it through an emphasis on practical skills and an incomparable externship program. The curriculum is rigorous, but students are supported by a mentoring faculty, dedicated staff, and encouraging classmates. ASL maintains a focus on Dispute Resolution, Litigation, and Natural Resources.

Overview

Having enrolled students from Maryland to Florida on the East Coast, from Alaska to California on the West Coast, and throughout the Central and Midwest states, Great Lakes Truck Driving School is quickly becoming America’s Premier Training Facility for CDL, Heavy Equipment Operation, and Oilfield Certifications. This state of the art training facility is located within 30 minutes of downtown Cleveland and is easily accessible by major interstates, bus terminals and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The expansive 9,000 square foot facility houses spacious classrooms and administrative areas. Situated on a 10.7-acre training site, our students are able to utilize multiple trucks to perfect their maneuvering skills prior to setting out on the road-driving portion of their training. The Heavy Equipment Operation training area resembles a construction site where students learn safety, jobsite set-up, topography readings, grading techniques, trenching, laying pipe, loading dump trucks, footer set-up and more!

The instructional staff at Great Lakes Truck Driving School is made up of highly qualified professional drivers and heavy equipment operators with years of experience in their industry. Our dedicated staff pledges their unwavering commitment to:

  • Provide quality commercial driver, heavy equipment operation and oilfield certification training programs that will instill a positive attitude.
  • Provide practical and theoretical instruction that will produce safe, well-qualified commercial drivers, heavy equipment operators and oilfield workers who will be an asset to their company and their community.

Mission Statement: Our success is measured in direct proportion to the success of our students. Our goal is to provide quality instructional programs in a student-centered culture built on respect, encouragement, and continuous support, while empowering students with the foundation for a lifetime of success.

Military

Nearly half of our instructional staff are military veterans who are dedicated to helping our students build upon their military and training experience throughout their program. Our administrative staff members are trained and qualified to process active members and veterans for their VA educational benefits, including but not limited to Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits, Chapter 30 Montgomery GI Bill benefits, and Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation VA benefits.

Our training programs are designed to prepare graduates for a new career in truck driving, heavy equipment operation, and the oil & gas drilling industry. We are proud to report a placement rate of over 86% for our veteran graduates.

Many of the hiring companies that we work with have a preference for veteran employees and offer a variety of Military Veteran and Service Member programs. These companies are actively seeking veteran employees who value honor, dedication, and discipline. With our lifetime placement assistance program, our veteran graduates know they are welcome to come back to our institution for guidance throughout their career.
