 | | | Following Up on Your Job Search
After applying for a position, don’t wait for the phone to ring or the email to come pouring in. Keep your job search proactive by following up! Take the initiative to see where you stand.
A few days after submitting an application, email the recruiter who posted the job. Let them know you applied and that you’re excited about the position. Tell them why you are a great fit for that opening and their company, similar to the wording of a tailored cover letter.
During an interview, be sure to ask for their decision timeline, so you’re know when to follow up. Then send a friendly reminder at the appropriate time that reinforces your interest in the job.
Use follow-up and thank you letters to tell an employer why they should hire you. Personalize the letter or email and include a tailored resume that better aligns with the opportunity, now that you have learned more about the job. |
