Duties
This position is located in the Office of the Inspector General, Assistant Inspector General for Investigations. Salary includes 25% law enforcement availability pay (LEAP).

As a Senior Criminal Investigator for the Office of the Inspector General, you will serve as a senior authority in all phases of investigative activity. You will provide subject matter expert guidance to a group of investigators conducting major investigations involving highly complex investigative matters as may be required to assure the integrity of operations of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB).
You will ensure implementation of investigative standards, procedures and guidelines consistent with the Quality Standards established by the Council of Inspector Generals for Integrity and Efficiency and perform investigations of possible violations of criminal laws or regulations and other irregularities in the administration of NRC and DNFSB programs and activities.
You will also maintain effective and productive working relationships with other key law enforcement and investigative personnel in other departments and agencies to include the Departments of Justice and Treasury and other Inspector General offices.
Qualifications
Experience
In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience is experience and training that equipped you with the ability to conduct investigations of allegations to determine violations of laws, regulations, and/or procedures.
Specialized experience also includes the ability to prepare concise and accurate reports of investigations, and allegations.
Candidates are subject to the maximum age of original entry into law enforcement positions with this agency, which is 37, unless they have previous service in a Federal civilian law enforcement position covered by special law enforcement retirement provisions or are a preference-eligible veteran.
If selected for this position, you will be required to carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is mandatory.
You must also successfully complete a pre-employment medical evaluation.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
(1) Demonstrated knowledge of Federal criminal laws and investigative techniques and procedures in order to conduct professional investigations of violations of those laws or of other irregularities within the jurisdiction of the NRC OIG.
(2) Broad knowledge of the NRC mission, programs, organization and structure; and the purpose, background, and application of the basic laws, regulations, and related administrative procedures affecting the NRC.
(3) Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze data from a variety of sources to fulfill the objectives of investigations, event inquiries, special inquiries, and management implication reports.
(4) Demonstrated ability to prepare written investigative summaries and reports that are accurate, understandable, thorough, clear, and objective.
(5) Demonstrated ability to lead a group of criminal investigators for the purpose of providing guidance in areas such as the development of individual investigative plans, reviewing Reports of Interview, and preparation of a final closing report.
(6) Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with management and staff, coworkers, NRC personnel, and those of other government agencies.
Education
There is no degree requirement for this position, however, a Bachelor's degree or higher is desired.
REQUIRED TRAINING
In addition, candidates for this position must have successfully completed the Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA, as well as other courses as prescribed by the OIG to comply with the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency requirements, unless exempt or waived by the OIG based on previous successful completion of such training. This technical training must be successfully completed according to the standards of the agency. Failure to meet this requirement shall result the disqualification of your application.
