Responsibilities
As an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist, you will be part of our Department of HOmeland Security (DHS), Office of Infrastructure Protection (IP), Infrastructure Secruity Compliance Division (ISCD) Mission Support Services team, and will provide program-level support to our customers. This position requires proactive leadership, domain knowledge, and superior customer interaction skills. Key to your success will be the ability to effectively balance competing priorities and interests, and a relentless drive to deliver quality projects to satisfied customers on time and under budget.
Specific responsibilities include:
Supporting the ground safety and medical monitoring programs for the ISCD Field Operations Branch (FOB) involving a diverse group industrial safety and occupational activities and provide advisory safety services to tenant organizations. Advising command staff and operating officials on safety requirements, standards, and procedures. Assisting in controlling or eliminating unsafe physical conditions, equipment and machine hazards, and risks in human performance that may cause injury to persons or damage to property. Investigating reportable and non-reportable personal injury accidents, property damage, and occupational illnesses, seeking to identify patterns and related causes. Providing revision recommendations to standard local safety instructions and guides that are relevant to current or planned contractor operations and base employees. Providing technical safety training and instruction on specific safety procedures to supervisors, employees, and/or unit safety representatives on such areas as traffic safety techniques, proper storage of hazardous materials, common laboratory hazards, and building evacuation procedures in coordination with ISCD Training. Supporting medical and surveillance programs for employees exposed to hazardous materials or working conditions. Coordinating occupational health related pre-placement, periodic, and termination physical examinations.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
Strong written and oral communication skills. Solid technical foundation in occupational health and safety. Ability to obtain DHS Suitability required; current preferred.
Required Experience:
4-year Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. 5 years' experience working in occupational health and safety. Work experience at government consulting firm or government agency; DHS NPPD experience preferred. A track record that displays a relentless drive to exceed customer expectations.
